The HKMA co-hosted FiNETech8 - “Navigating Quantum Quality” with the Cyberport Hong Kong, FinTech Association of Hong Kong, and HKUST Business School today, bringing together over 300 professionals from across Hong Kong’s financial sector and technology community to explore the opportunities and challenges introduced by quantum technologies.
Carmen Chu, Executive Director (Banking Supervision) of the HKMA, announced in her opening remarks the publication of the HKMA’s whitepaper on Quantum Computing and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), introducing the Quantum Preparedness Index (QPI), a quantitative measure of banks’ readiness for the PQC transition. The initial QPI score is 2.3 on a 10-point scale, reflecting the sector is at an early stage of preparedness, and currently focused on laying the foundation for the quantum era. She highlighted great potential to start early together to raise the QPI to full mark by 2030.
