Emerging Digital Trends in Long-Term Investment Strategies

In September, Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR) released their report titled, “Long-term Investing in Hong Kong: Developments and Opportunities in a Digital Economy”, with some key takeaways of the study as follows:

• While Hong Kong residents show a strong foundation in basic financial knowledge, there is a broader need for increased awareness and understanding of specific financial products, such as those related to long-term investing and decumulation.
• 72% of surveyed residents have used digital financial services over the past year, and around 70% of surveyed market participants are currently adopting or plan to adopt digital platforms for product distribution. Embracing technology is key to drive innovation, increase scalability, reduce costs, and streamline product distribution
• To foster a local robust and sustainable investment ecosystem, it is important to facilitate technology adoption, optimise financial products, services, and distribution channels, and to promote financial literacy, with a particular focus on decumulation, in order to effectively support the evolving financial needs of Hong Kong.
